Cankerworm
Cryx Character Bonejack
Cankerworm attacks with a breed of cunning and sense of self-preservation that makes mockery of life. The 'jack's unprecedented ability to manipulate even the most sophisticated and complex mechanikal devices makes Cankerworm a versatile and vicious tool. It waits for the mightiest of warjacks to suffer crippling damage and springs to attack the vulnerable machine. After the final strike, Cankerworm harvests weapons and other useful machinery from the fallen construct and turns them against their former masters.

I haven't played against a Cankerworm in Mk2 if I recall correctly. If I did, I probably retained what horror I had of it in Mk1 and went to dispose of it early.
ReplyDeleteIt has so much mobility, but a wise Cryx player should use it to set up a trap instead of going to engage early. I'd use it to deliver the finishing blow to a jack just so I can Replicate the weapon it had.
Haven't really seen it action, looks more like a back-up unit finishing off a damaged jack. Wonder if you take this epic skarre's feat to have 2 turns of snacking on a jack... then again epic skarre is sick
ReplyDeleteOooh its the nasty Cranky Worm. I remember Fred using this to pick off my Champs. Lotsa hate for this model. ^_^
ReplyDeleteAgainst Khador, it can be used to deliver the deathblow to casters, especially bigger-based ones like Butcher and Karchev. Slither it around and hit with the Armor Piercing Bite, that's a dead red guy.
ReplyDeleteCombo this guy with some charging Scything Touch Bane Thralls, wreck an enemy warjack, and have the Cankerworm slither up and Adapt a weapon. From the Motherland, it could have a Destroyer's Bombards and start laying waste on my infantry.
How to break it the Khadoran way? The Cankerworm has high DEF, so that's my main speedbump. Even the Great Bears would have some difficulty thrashing it. A warjack should be able to set up the breaking - two focus for a boosted Head Butt. Once it's knocked down, the bashy stuff (Great Bears, IFP, MOWDC) would then auto-hit it.
Yup, I think it's more of a finisher than one that will attack initially. Would be fun if it can take the Behemoth's AP Fist for 2 AP attacks albeit the AP Fist is only Pow 0. Another would be the Ice Breaker of Beast or Ice Axe of the Jug, preferably the former.
ReplyDeleteI wonder. It can take the Shield of the Spriggan right? So it becomes Arm 17 too? Hehe. Other notable salvaged weapons would be Torch's Ripsaw, Cygnar's Ironclad and Stormclad hammers, Menite Vanquisher's morningstar, Cryx Harrower's thresher weapon.
With Khador, have to send high mat jacks at it. Boosting the to hit and it would hurt. Infantry, I'd send Fenris in or the Drakhun or even Markov. Scrappy with 4 focus has a good chance also.
ReplyDeleteWith Hordes, it's a bit easier by boosting to hit. Even a Shredder can plink the guy for some serious damage. Or the Angelius can almost one shot it since it too has AP.
ATGMs with Deadeye can plink it to death hehe. Or Kara can finish the job. LOL ^_^
ReplyDeleteYuck. Yeah I think the Cankerworm can Adapt a Spriggan's Assault Shield, bumping up its ARM to 18. But then again, Khador has lots of solutions for high ARM targets. You might get away with it if you get the Centurion's Shield. LOL ^^
ReplyDeleteHehe ye. But usually kasi Khador brings only 1-2 jacks and if the Spriggan is dead...
ReplyDeleteMahirap pa din Def 14 Arm 18. LoL. Butcher man! hahaha!
How much threat does it pose to your armies?
ReplyDeleteLegion, not so much esp with Eyeless Sight beasts. Khador as long as you have something fast to tie it up, it wouldn't be that much a threat.
ReplyDeleteThe cankerworm used to be an infantry grinder back in MKI but MKI gives it as different focus.
ReplyDeleteThe most annoying part about the cankerworm isnt its abilities...its how its hitboxes are arranged on its card
its very frustrating dealing significant damage to the worm and not take out a system. since it has parry it can then move out of the way and harass something else
the canker is more opportunist than frontline obviously. its best not to plan your strategy around adapt. what i see it doing now is more of an anti arcnode option than anything.
Trolls will view this sly bastard as an assassination threat. Its Warmachine only abilities go out the window, as soon as you start talking about Hordes.
ReplyDeleteIts Armor Piercing bite, however is what makes it golden. This attack typically translates into 2 damage in plus an additional 3d6 on the charge. This is more than enough to finish off a damaged heavy or caster on average dice.
As the others have stated, this jack is not a front liner and will usually be seen on a flank or behind a tarpit unit. One has to be wary as Cryx has easy access to the Ghostly spell and can give this jack the ability to pass through terrain and obstacles.
Troll players will deal with this threat as it does with the Cygnaran Hunter light jack. The high DEF in addition to stealth makes a ranged solution difficult. Also the distribution of 4 Cortex boxes means that you have to scrap it on your initial attack to eliminate the threat completely. Engaging it only mitigates the threat since it has parry and can disengage and bite something else.
Thankfully almost anything in the troll arsenal can be buffed to hit it and anything that hits it will seriously hurt it. 2 or 3 attacks that are properly buffed can easily scrap this jack.
Playing an army where all its casters are on medium bases will always place this jack as a high threat. The pressure of the threat will always cause concern to any troll player. It can be effective at causing mistakes without it doing anything. That is how undeniable the effect this jack can bring to the table.
I kills it before it can do what it does...
ReplyDeleteWhat are any popular combos have you seen this thing can do?
